Description
The churchyard cross, now functioning as a sundial, is located about 10 meters south of the tower of the Church of St. Cuthbert. It dates from the medieval period, likely the 14th or 15th century, and is made of sandstone. The cross features a square socket stone set on what is probably a later stone plinth, with a fragment of the shaft that is approximately 0.8 meters high. The upper edge of the socket stone is adorned with cable moulding and grotesque faces at the corners. The shaft has a square base that is broached to create an octagonal section, serving as the base for the sundial. The cable moulding and the faces on the corners of the shaft closely resemble those found on the cross at the nearby Church of St. Mary Magdalene in Albrighton.
