Description
Corfton House is an 18th-century house with 19th-century additions. Constructed of brick with a plain tile roof and brick end stacks, the house is L-shaped and has later infilling. The main facade is two storeys and six windows wide. It features cross-windows with metal casements within moulded brick surrounds and stone sills, all set beneath gauged brick flat arches. A modillioned brick band runs along the eaves. The central entrance is within an advanced bay, with a six-fielded-panel door and a semi-circular fanlight, set in lined reveals and sheltered by a modillioned flat hood supported by attached Ionic columns that interrupt the storey band. Similar windows flank the entrance, although two eight-over-twelve pane sashes in moulded cases are found at the extreme left.
The right returned side has a tier of twelve-over-twelve pane sashes in moulded cases, again under brick flat arches. A later rear range features a tier of six-over-six pane sashes in moulded cases, with eight-over-eight pane sashes to the rear. There’s a half-glazed door in a simple doorcase, along with brick ridge stacks.
A stone rubble wing is attached to the left, featuring a central arched carriageway with plank double doors, various lights and casements, and a stack to the rear. The rear of the original 18th-century range has two tiers of six-over-six pane sashes under segmental arches, with a brick buttress stack. The interior was not inspected.
