Description

The Hamar Memorial is a chest tomb located approximately 14 metres north of the north aisle of the Church of St George, dating from around 1819. It is constructed from sandstone ashlar and features a chamfered plinth, sunken panels with double incised borders and quadrant corners, and flanking fluted pilaster strips. The corners are rebated with quadrant angles, and there are vase-shaped balusters as nook shafts, topped with a chamfered edge. This memorial commemorates Jane Hamar, who died in 1819, and is an example of a local tomb type, similar to the Luther memorial located approximately 31 metres to the north of the north aisle.
