Description
The ice house located approximately 200 metres to the north-west of Lower Eyton is a disused structure, likely built in the 18th or 19th century. It has been excavated from natural red sandstone and is designed in an L-shape, consisting of two circular chambers connected by a small rectangular chamber. The entrance features a segmental arch leading into the first segmental-vaulted circular chamber. There is also a segmental arch leading to the small rectangular chamber, which has shelves carved out of the natural rock, and another segmental arch that connects to the deeper inner circular chamber. This ice house was probably associated with the large house at Eyton on Severn, of which only a detached tower and a few walls remain today. Lower Eyton itself is not included in this listing.
