Description

The Oakes Memorial is a chest tomb located approximately 21 metres to the north of the north aisle of the Church of St George. It dates from around 1837 and is constructed from sandstone ashlar. The tomb features a chamfered plinth, sunken panels with carved radial-fan corners, partly fluted corner piers, and a plain top. It commemorates John Beaumont Oakes, who died in 1837.
