Description
No. 14 High Street is a shop and dwelling that dates from the late 18th century to early 19th century, built on an earlier core. The building is constructed of brick and features a slate roof with brick stacks at both the front and rear. It has four storeys and a cellar, presenting a single-window range. The façade includes a canted bay with 2/2, 8/8, and 2/2 sash windows, along with a 6/6 sash window above that has a grooved stone lintel and a damaged 19th-century cast-iron window box guard. There is also a 3/6 sash window above with a complete guard.
The shopfront, which is from the 20th century, has a grilled and panelled door set back between bowed lights and shop windows that feature fixed upper sections and metal-framed lower sashes. The stallboards are tiled, and there is a moulded cornice above a deep hood supported by consoles. On the Market Street side, there is a 4/8 sash window under a segmental arch on the first floor, and 2-light casement windows on the second and third floors. To the left, there is a plank door with a grilled overlight and another 4/8 sash window.
