Description
Lady Halton Farmhouse is a house dating from the 17th century, which was greatly extended in the 19th century. It features a timber-frame and brick construction with a Welsh slate roof. The building has a rendered end stack with a rubble base, along with various brick stacks. It is two storeys high and has a two-window range, showcasing 19th-century cross windows with glazing bars set in box framing. The entrance is located to the right and consists of a plank door situated in a porch that has a pentice roof and cast-iron lattice lights, along with 19th-century lights and a cross window. Inside, the farmhouse includes panelling and moulded ceiling beams on the ground floor to the left. The surrounding area has scattered fenestration, with the entrance in the porch facing west. This farmhouse is notable as the birthplace of Henry Hill Hickman, who lived from 1800 to 1830 and was a pioneer of anaesthesia.
