Description
Oakly Park is an 18th-century house that was restored by C.R. Cockerell between 1819 and 1836. It is constructed of brick with ashlar detailing and features a slate roof along with various brick stacks topped with ashlar. The building has three stories and a basement, with a nine-window range. The central bay includes three 6/6 sash windows set under gauged brick flat arches, and there are protruding wings on either side, each with a 6/6 sash window in an ashlar case with a hood supported by consoles. To the left of the central bay, there are two round-headed 9/6 sashes, while to the right, there are coved stucco niches framed by moulded stucco architraves. The exterior is adorned with rusticated quoins and a coved ashlar cornice.
The ground floor is slightly advanced and features a balustraded parapet above. The central bay has three tall 6/6 sashes under gauged brick flat arches, flanked by porticoes that contain central doors and sashes beneath ashlar cornices. The wings are slightly recessed, with the left wing having two 6/6 sashes under gauged brick flat arches and a moulded stucco cornice, along with a stone-coped brick parapet and a hipped slate roof. The right wing is larger, featuring two windows on each floor. The south front showcases an advanced central bay with a balustraded balcony supported by scrolled brackets and plain pilasters on the first floor, topped with a pediment.
The rear of the building includes various wings, a parterre, and a colonnade. The east front features central Venetian windows with 4/4, 11/6, and 4/4 sashes on the ground and first floors, topped with a pediment, and a semi-circular wing to the left. Inside, the Greek Revival staircase-hall, picture gallery, and library are particularly noteworthy.
