Description
The Luther Memorial is a pedestal tomb located approximately 27 metres north of the north aisle of the Church of St George. It dates from the early to mid-19th century and is constructed from sandstone ashlar. The tomb features a moulded plinth, sunken panels, and an entablature adorned with a Gothick frieze of ogee-headed panels. It also has a moulded cornice and a concave capping that supports a moulded urn-finial. The memorial commemorates Mary Ann, Alice Martha, and Elizabeth, daughters of Thomas (who died in 1848) and Mary Ann (who died in 1849) Luther. This tomb is a late example of a classic 18th-century design with Gothick details.
