Description
The stable block, located approximately 15 meters south of Huntsman's Lodge, dates from around 1800 and has seen minor alterations since then. It is constructed of uncoursed limestone rubble with a red brick facade and features a double-span slate hipped roof that is graded towards the rear section. The building has two levels and is designed with a dentilled eaves cornice that extends across a slightly projecting central pediment.
The facade is arranged in a 2:1:2 bay configuration. Eaves hatches are present on the left and right sections, with the far left hatch taking the form of a roundel. The ground floor includes cambered vehicle arches on the far left and right, with the left arch featuring 19th-century double doors. Below the inner eaves hatches are segmental-headed stable doors; the left side has flanking centre-hung casements, while the right side includes a 19th-century casement to the left. The central section has a modern half-glazed door with a 19th-century segmental head, flanked by segmental-headed windows. There is a similar window directly below the eaves cornice and a roundel in the pediment. A window with Gothic Y-tracery is located in the rear left corner on the first floor.
While the interior could not be inspected during the last survey in November 1986, it is reported to retain original loose hexes and stable partitions. This stable block was formerly associated with Glan-yr-afon Hall. Huntsman's Lodge itself is not included in this listing.
