Description

Pen-y-bont is a bridge built in 1718, with extensive repairs made in 1836. It is constructed from regularly coursed and dressed limestone rubble, featuring ashlar dressings. The bridge has a single segmental arch that includes a projecting keystone and rusticated voussoirs that extend to the soffit. There is a flat string course and a plain parapet that ends with rectangular corner piers. Previously, a plaque on one of the parapets indicated, "This Bridge was erected with stone at ye equal charge of the County of Denbigh and ye Hundred of Oswestry in ye County of Salop A.D. 1718." The bridge spans the River Cynlaith, which marks the boundary with Wales.
