Description
The Laurels is a farmhouse dating from the late 17th century or early 18th century, with eaves raised and remodelling that occurred in the early 19th century. There have been late 19th century and 20th century additions and alterations. The building is primarily constructed of red brick on a sandstone plinth, but it also features some timber framing with purple brick infill at the rear. It has a graded slate roof and stands two storeys tall.
The facade has four windows, which are 16-paned glazing bar sashes with slightly cambered gauged heads, except for a narrow sash window located above the right doorway. There are entrances at the far left and in the third bay from the left. The entrance on the far left has a 20th century half-glazed door, while the other has a six-panel door with the top panels now glazed, set in a plain pilastered doorcase with panelled reveals. A red brick ridge stack is positioned between the first and second windows from the left, and there is an external end stack to the right.
While the interior could not be inspected during the resurvey in October 1986, it is likely to be of interest. The late 19th century yellow brick additions at the rear and the 20th century flat-roofed addition attached to the right are not considered to have special architectural interest. The building is included for its group value.
