Description
Castle folly, now in ruins, was built around 1840 and is made of roughly dressed red sandstone. It features a miniature castle design that includes a keep or tower, roughly circular 'bailey' walls, and outer oval retaining walls. The tower was originally one storey with a basement, and it has a flat string course at the parapet. There are two pointed-arched windows and a low door leading to the former basement. The owner has reported that the date 1842 is marked on the building, although this was not recorded during the survey in March 1986. A pool exists between the inner and outer walls. The folly is currently floorless, semi-ruinous, and heavily overgrown. Hinstock Court is not included in this listing.
