Description
Upper Bent is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with significant later additions and alterations. It features a timber frame with plastered infilling and uncoursed limestone rubble, topped with slate roofs. There is a large integral axial stack located behind the ridge and a brick end stack to the left. Originally, the house consisted of three framed bays but was extended to the left, right, and rear, likely in the mid-19th century, during which it was largely clad in stone and the roof was raised. The building is two storeys high and has four three-light casement windows, with those on the ground floor having cambered heads. There are entrances to the right, one under a 19th-century cambered brick arch and another through a part timber-framed porch located between the second and third bays from the left. The rear wall displays rectangular panelling with short tension braces that have been exposed. Internally, much of the structural framing remains visible, including the principal rafters of the original roof pitch.
