Urn approximately 40 metres south east of tower

This is an urn located approximately 40 metres southeast of the tower at Oteley, built around 1826 to 1842 for Charles Kynaston Mainwaring. Made of sandstone, the urn features foliage decoration and two horned ram's heads on its sides. It has ornamental carving around the rim and a plumed feather-like design on the underside, along with a carved plinth. The urn likely sits on its original square base, which has chamfered projections on the sides. Charles Kynaston Mainwaring was an enthusiastic amateur gardener who designed much of the garden at Oteley, influenced by his extensive travels in Europe. His house, Oteley Park, was constructed in an Elizabethan style on the site of an earlier building between 1826 and 1840 and was extended in 1842, but it was demolished around 1960.
