Description

HODNET C.P. HAWKSTONE PARK SJ 5829-5929 11/58 Rotunda approx. 160 metres 10.2.59 to east of Hawkstone Hall (formerly listed as Two Gazebos in Hawkstone Park to east of House)

Rotunda. Before 1784. Grey sandstone ashlar. Octagonal plan. Base with moulded plinth, square Tuscan piers, entablature with breaks over piers, blocking course, and high ribbed dome. Flights of 5 stone steps to east and west with side walls and end piers with cast- iron urns. This was formerly one of a pair of rotundas sited axially along the Temple Walk to the east of Hawkstone Hall (q.v.). The other, further to the east, collapsed in 1957. B.O.E., p. 144.
