Description

The Old Manor House is a house located on School Lane in Hodnet, dated 1656 and 1658, and was restored in the mid- to late-19th century. The building is timber-framed with plastered infill panels and has a slate roof. The framing consists of small square panels, with four extending from the sole plate to the wall plate, and long straight tension braces. It features three framed bays and is one storey with an attic. There are brick ridge stacks positioned off-centre to the left and right.

The house has a pair of large 17th-century timber-framed dormers, each with a jettied gable supported by chamfered bressumers (the left-hand dormer is dated 1656) and shaped brackets. The trusses include collars and V-struts. The restored 17th-century windows are four-light, made of moulded wood with mullions and transoms, featuring diamond leaded lights, moulded cills, and gabled tops. The left-hand window is dated 16058.

The front of the house has two windows, with 19th-century four-light wooden mullioned and transomed windows that also have diamond-leaded lights and gabled tops. There is a central boarded door. The gable ends display jettied first floors with moulded bressumers and hewn brackets, along with tie-beam trusses that include two collars, queen struts, and V-struts. The interior has not been inspected.
