Description

No. 22 in Marchamley is a house dating from the early 17th century, with later additions from the late 17th century. It features a timber frame with painted brick nogging set on a rendered plinth and has a thatched roof. The framing consists of square and rectangular panels, with two panels extending from the sole plate to the wall plate, and late 17th century square panels that include long straight tension braces. The building has a baffle-entry plan with two framed bays, a later 17th century wing at the rear, and an addition to the left. It is one storey high with an attic.

The house has a large central 19th century brick ridge stack, flanked by shafts and topped with a central lozenge-panelled strip and toothed-brick capping. There are two large 17th century timber framed eaves dormers, featuring decorative parallel diagonal strutting in the left-hand gable and a collar and tie-beam truss with queen struts and V-struts in the right-hand gable. The dormers have late 20th century wooden-framed leaded metal casements. The front of the house has three windows, with two- and three-light wooden-framed leaded metal casements; the center window has replaced a door.

To the left, there is a lower timber framed addition with an integral 19th century brick end stack, also flanked by shafts and topped with a central lozenge-panelled strip and toothed brick capping, and a two-light metal casement window at the front. The right-hand gable end features a collar and tie-beam truss with queen struts and V-struts. The entrance is located at the rear of the house. The interior has not been inspected.
