Description
Hillhampton Cottage, also known as Ivy House, is a pair of cottages dating from the late 17th century, with alterations and additions from the late 18th century and mid to late 19th century. The cottages are timber framed with painted brick nogging and have been extended in brick, some of which is painted to resemble timber framing. They feature a plain tile roof and the framing consists of square panels, with three panels running from the sole plate to the wall plate, supported by long straight tension braces.
The structure includes two framed bays with later additions on either side. It is one storey high with an attic and has a pair of brick ridge stacks, an integral brick end stack to the left, and a brick stack at the rear. The front has three gabled eaves dormers, each with two-light wooden casements, and the central dormer has diamond-leaded lights. The front elevation has four windows, which are 19th-century two-light wooden casements, with the two on the right also featuring diamond-leaded lights. There are also a pair of six-panelled doors, each with ornamental gabled lattice wooden porches.
