Description

The Edwards Memorial is a chest tomb located approximately 5 meters to the north-west of the north porch of the Church of St George. It dates from the early to mid-19th century and is made of sandstone ashlar. The tomb features a chamfered plinth, sunken panels, corner piers with shallow trefoiled panels, and a chamfered top. It commemorates Thomas Edwards, who died in 1826, and Sarah Edwards, who died in 1847. This memorial is a notable example of the transition from 18th century and early 19th century classical chest tombs to the more distinctly Gothic memorials of the mid- and late 19th century. It is included for its group value.
