Description
This sundial, located approximately 45 metres to the south-west of Cloverley Hall, dates from 1872 and is likely the work of William Eden Nesfield. It is made of Portland stone and has an octagonal shape. The sundial features a plinth with a moulded top, a circular stem adorned with four carved floral panels separated by carved pilaster strips, and a moulded top. Two of the panels have inscriptions that were illegible at the time of the survey in October 1986. The copper dial plate is inscribed with shields and the text: "J.P. HEYWOOD AD. 1872 / ALTE VOLO". The gnomon includes a bird and is inscribed with "ALTE" and "1872". The sundial is accessed by three stone steps that have glazed tiles on the risers.
