Description
Nos. 12 and 13 are a cottage that has been divided into two homes, dating from the mid-17th century with later additions and alterations. The building is timber framed with rendered infill sitting on a rubblestone plinth, and each end is made of roughly coursed limestone rubble. It has a reed thatch roof. The original 2-cell plan was extended to the right in the 18th century and to the left in the 19th century. The framing features square panels, with three panels from the cill to the wall-plate. There are four small 19th-century casement windows in the framing panels and two three-light windows in the raking eaves dormers. The entrance to No. 13 is located in the left gable end, while No. 12 has its entrance at the rear. A brown brick ridge stack is positioned at the junction between the timber-framed section and the 19th-century addition, and there is an external rubblestone end stack to the right with a brown brick top and a lean-to at the rear, likely incorporating a bread oven. The interior has only been partially inspected, but No. 12 features chamfered ceiling beams and a large chimney breast. The cottages form a picturesque group with the Church of St Mary located opposite.
