Description

Frodesley House Farmhouse is a timber-framed building, likely dating to the 16th or 17th century, with extensions from approximately 1830 and further alterations in the late 19th century. The farmhouse is constructed of timber frame, with sections rebuilt and extended in painted brick and rendered. It has plain tile roofs and an L-shaped layout, with a front range added around 1830. The front range has integral brick end stacks and a central brick ridge stack, while a 16th or 17th-century external brick stack remains in the rear angle, featuring grey sandstone dressings to its lower portion. The front of the building has three bays with 16-pane glazing bar sash windows. The central entrance features a 6-panelled door with panelled reveals, a 3-part rectangular overlight, and a porch supported by unfluted Doric columns, a frieze, a cornice, and a blocking course above. A late 20th-century glazed lobby has been added to the entrance. Inside, the farmhouse has chamfered ceiling beams with large square joists. There's a large open fireplace with a 19th-century kitchen range, a salt cupboard near a blocked open fireplace, timber-framed cross-walls, and a staircase in the 1830 front range, characterized by an open string, cut scrolled brackets, two stick balusters per tread, a moulded handrail, and a curtail with a columnular newel post.
