Description
This is a chest tomb located 4 metres south of the chancel of the Church of St Mary in Ashford Carbonell, dating from the mid-19th century. It is constructed from sandstone ashlar and features a plain lid with a beaded bed mould. The side panels are plain and inscribed, bordered with an incised design and inset quadrant corners. The corner piers have a double vertical band that incorporates horizontal fluting, which joins in a semi-circle at the top. There is a plain plinth inset beneath the side panels. The tomb commemorates Dorothy, the wife of E. Broome, who died in 1841, and James Beaumont, who died in 1855. It is included for its group value.
