Description
The Luther Memorial is a chest tomb located approximately 31 metres north of the north aisle of the Church of St George in Clun. It dates from around 1830 and is made of sandstone ashlar. The tomb features a chamfered plinth, sunken panels with end-panels that have large shallow recessed lozenges, rebated corners with quadrant angles, and vase-shaped balusters as nook shafts. It has a cavetto moulding along the plain top. The memorial commemorates John Luther, who died in 1830, and Ann Luther, who died in 1858. This tomb is a notable example of a style that is specific to this area, similar to the Hamar memorial located approximately 14 metres to the north of the north aisle.
