Description
The Old Weir is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with alterations and extensions made in the early 19th and 20th centuries. The building features a timber-framed wing that has a sandstone rubble plinth and is completely rendered, while later additions are also rendered on the east front. The roof is part hipped and covered with Welsh slate. The earlier wing runs east to west, with a later wing extending to the south on the east side. There are lateral stacks on both the earlier wing and the later addition. The east front has a right-of-centre entrance and a central entrance on the north front of the 17th-century wing. The building is two storeys high with a gable-lit attic in the later wing. On the east front, there are three sash windows, two of which have marginal glazing bars and one with glazing bars. The earlier wing to the right has a slightly lower roof line and features a 4-light casement window. On the ground floor, there are two sash windows with marginal glazing bars to the left and one similar window in the earlier wing to the right of the entrance, which has a plain open porch and an inner half-glazed door. Inside the earlier wing, square panelled timber-framing is visible, along with some remaining chamfered ceiling beams.
