Description
The Hankins monument, located about one yard south of the junction of the nave and chancel of Putley Parish Church, is a chest tomb dedicated to John Hankins, who died in 1762. This tomb is designed in the Rococo style and is made of finely cut sandstone ashlar. It features a moulded base and capping, with gadrooned balusters at the corners adorned with low relief swirling foliage decoration. The side panels display Rococo devices in a subtly asymmetrical arrangement, while the inscription panels are slightly hollowed in the center and bulge towards the ends.
