Description
A barn and adjoining stable and shelter sheds, dating to the late 16th to early 17th century, are located about 30 yards northwest of Bodenham Court Farmhouse. It is believed the structure was re-erected at Bodenham Court Farm in the early 19th century, with alterations and extensions in the mid-19th century and around 1900. The barn is timber-framed and weatherboarded, built on a sandstone rubble base with rubble alterations, and has a corrugated asbestos roof. It consists of five framed bays aligned east/west. The central wagon bay has opposed cart entries and a gabled midstrey on the south side. Three rubble bays are attached to the east end. A door and window are located on the south side of these bays, the second from the west end, and there are also three skylights in the roof. The rubble section features two ground floor windows flanking a central doorway, a loft door, and an additional opening above at the east gable end. All openings in the rubble part have cambered heads. The barn’s interior is recorded to contain re-used timber from the late 16th to early 17th century. A five-bay shelter shed adjoins the west bay to the south, and a two-bay rubble building adjoins it to the north. An additional four-bay shelter shed is connected to this building at its north end, and this shelter shed is attached to a two-bay stable and another eight-bay shelter shed, which enclose the yard to the rear of the barn. The stable is a rubble structure with a plain tiled roof. It includes a collar and tie-beam truss with four struts and a V-strut in the apex at its east gable end. There are two ground floor windows, three upper level windows, and a doorway facing the yard. The barn is thought to have originally been situated in Parsonage Meadow, east of the Church of St Michael and All Angels and was moved to its present site sometime after 1913 by "Biggs of Urdimarsh". The buildings are adjacent to Bodenham Court Farmhouse. They are included for group value.
