Description

Dating from the 18th century, 11 and 15 Sherford Street are a pair of cottages located on a main thoroughfare in Bromyard, a market town first recorded around 840. The cottages are constructed of rough coursed rubble stone with a slate roof and a central brick chimney stack.

The exterior presents a symmetrical façade of two bays and two storeys. Each side features vertically aligned eight-over-eight hornless sash windows, which have projecting stone sills and moulded box-frame cases flush with the façade. Solid front doors with fielded panels, set within moulded frames and stone doorsteps, are situated on either side of the building. The eaves slightly project from the main structure.

The original plan form of the front range appears to have been retained, although 20th-century extensions have been added to the rear. The interior has not been inspected. The building substantially predates 1840.

The cottages are designated at Grade II for their architectural qualities as a modest, well-proportioned vernacular building, their intact original plan form despite later alterations, their historical significance, and their group value within the surrounding listed buildings.
