Description

Nos 1 and 3 The Homend is a building from the 17th century that was refronted in the late 18th century, with an addition made at the back. No 3 is three storeys tall and constructed of red brick. Its west front is convex and features a moulded stone cornice with brick dentils, a Victorian parapet, and a pediment supported by brackets. There are three widely spaced sash windows with glazing bars, flat arches, and keyblocks. The right corner of the front is pilastered, and there is a large Victorian shop front with a cornice. The right-hand return facing High Street has a Victorian design that attempts to match the front, featuring red brick pilasters, a parapet, and a cornice. No 1, which faces High Street, has an 18th-century red brick front, a tiled hipped roof, and is two storeys with an attic. It has two windows on the first floor, which are two-light wood mullion/transom windows with segmental brick arches, along with two large gabled attic dormers. There is also a large early 19th-century shop front with a fascia and pilasters. The right-hand return facing Church Street has eaves that continue with No 1 Church Street. Nos 1 to 21 (odd) form a group with Nos 1 to 5 (consecutive) Church Street.
