Description
1 High Street and 1 Church Lane is a building that likely dates from the 16th century, with a 17th-century wing. It is timber-framed with closely spaced vertical timbers. The building has two storeys and features two windows with Victorian wood mullion and transom casements. Across the entire front is a late Victorian shop window, which includes a cornice fascia and shaped spandrels around the windows. There is a gable to the left, and the building has an L-shaped plan. At the rear, there is a long timber-framed wing that is a 17th-century cottage facing Church Lane (No 1 Church Lane), which has square panels in its timber framing. This Market House, along with all the listed buildings on the east side of High Street, forms a cohesive group.
