Description
Alton Court is a building dating from the 16th century or earlier. It has three storeys and is timber framed with a modern tiled roof. The northwest front features two gabled wings. The left wing has closely set studding, projecting gables, and a moulded bressummer. It includes casement windows with old catches and leaded panes on two floors. This wing is supported by a stone base and has an old doorway flanked by two-light windows with chamfered stone mullions. The right wing is roughcast and painted to imitate timber, standing on a high stone base with a large casement window on the top floor that has wooden mullions and transoms.
The northeast front rests on an irregular stone base with closely set timber framing above. To the left is a gable featuring a large 17th-century style casement window with wooden transoms and mullions, while below it is a later stone porch. On the right side, there is a slightly projecting gabled wing with a small casement window in the gable and large casement windows on each floor below. The southeast front has been roughcast, and a poorly designed modern verandah has been added.
