Description
These stables, located about 20 yards north-north-east of Belmont Home Farmhouse, were likely built in the late 18th century. They are constructed of brick and roughly squared sandstone rubble, topped with a corrugated iron roof. The building has a rectangular plan oriented north-north-west to south-south-east and stands two storeys high.
The west elevation features a window arrangement of three, one, and six on the first floor, all with cambered heads. There is an advanced pediment with a blind oculus to the left of the centre. To the right of the centre, three first-floor openings have been blocked, while most of the remaining openings are fitted with ledged shutters that have strap hinges. The ground floor includes several openings with shutters and stable doors, with one pair located in the pedimented section.
At the rear of the pediment, there is an open-sided hexagonal cupola. The south elevation showcases a finish of sandstone rubble. The interior has not been inspected. Belmont Farmhouse is not part of this listing.
