Description

A group of eight chest tombs made of sandstone ashlar is located between about 7 and 25 yards south of the tower of the Church of St Peter.

The tombs commemorate several individuals:

  • Robert Jones, who died in 1731, features thick stepped flat capping, large corner balusters, and advanced side panels.
  • Another Robert Jones, who died in 1778, has flat capping, corner balusters, and quadrant corners on the margins of the side panels.
  • A tomb for William, who died in 1794, is similar to the previous one.
  • Margaret Beavan, who died in 1799, is remembered with flat moulded capping, gadrooned corner balusters, and quadrant corners with paterae on the margins of the side panels.
  • Susan Powell, who died in 1760, has flat capping, corner balusters, and advanced side panels.
  • Hanna Stone, who died in 1818, features low flat moulded capping, balustered end panels, and quadrant corners on the side panels.
  • John, who died in 1808, is commemorated with flat capping, corner balusters, and oval margins on the side panels.
  • The southernmost tomb, likely from the very early 19th century, has illegible inscriptions, hipped capping, and gadrooned corner balusters.
