Description

This building is a barn and cider house, likely dating from the 17th to 18th century, with a 20th-century extension. It features a timber-frame structure with finely coursed rubble and a corrugated iron roof. The barn has six bays running east to west, with a concrete lean-to extension on the west side. The cider house occupies the two eastern bays.

On the south elevation, there are full-height doors leading to the threshing floor on the left, and two entries on the right, including a ledged door in a chamfered door frame with decorative strap hinges for the cider house. The east gable end is made of rubble and has an entry from higher ground, with a door frame that includes run-out stop chamfers. The rear elevation has six ventilator slits to the right of the full-height ledged doors, which are located in the fourth bay from the east.

Inside, the barn features queen strut trusses, and the threshing floor is bordered on the east side by a partition made of frame stone slabs about three feet high. The ground floor of the east bay contains a complete cider mill and cider press, which includes an octagonal stone with moulded posts to support the screw, also hung from a large oak baulk measuring approximately 10 inches by 8 inches on the upper floor.
