Description
The Lough Pool Inn is an inn that likely dates from the late 17th century, with later additions. It features a timber-frame structure with plaster and brick infill, topped with pantile and Welsh slate roofs. The building has a sandstone rubble external end stack with a brick shaft.
The original part consists of two timber-framed bays oriented north-north-east to south-south-west, with a one-bay 19th-century addition to the south and an early 20th-century lean-to at the north end. The timber-framed section is one storey high with an attic. The west elevation has two windows, along with raking-top dormers that contain mid-20th-century casements. On the ground floor, there are three glazing bar 20th-century casements on the left and an entry on the right. The framing consists of two square panels high from the cill to the wall-plate, with angle struts connecting the tops of the wall posts to the wall-plates.
The right-hand extension features one 20th-century casement on each floor, with the lower one set under a cambered head. The left-hand lean-to has a ledged door. Inside, the inn has exposed ceiling beams and is said to have complete trusses. There is also a flat-roofed late 20th-century extension at the rear.
