Description

Upper Pengethley is an 18th-century farmhouse, with later alterations. It’s built on a sandstone plinth, with brick walls and a Welsh slate roof, featuring brick end stacks. The house has a roughly rectangular shape, facing south-south-east towards the garden. It includes a cellar and two storeys with an attic.

The south elevation has three windows, with glazing bar sashes and cambered heads. The central window has a semi-circular head and interlaced glazing bars. The upper windows feature smaller panes of glass. A central, glazed six-panel door is set behind an early 20th-century latticed and gabled porch. A brick eaves cornice runs along the top of the building. A sandstone lean-to addition at the right-hand end has two mid-20th-century casement windows with cambered heads.

Inside, the kitchen has a large, 18th-century stone fireplace with a chamfered surround, voussoirs, and a dropped keystone. The roof structure includes pegged king-posts. The attic space contains two late 18th- to early 19th-century cast-iron fireplaces with raised baskets.
