Description

How Caple Court is a country house with an adjoining stable and out-building. The core of the house dates back to the 17th century, with the stable also from the 17th century, and significant alterations and rebuilding occurring during the 19th and early 20th centuries. The structure is built from coursed and squared sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings, featuring hipped tiled and slate roofs. The house has an irregular plan and is aligned north/south, with out-buildings extending to the north and stables to the north-east. The earlier core of the house is retained in the kitchen wing to the north and the main section to the south.

The house is designed in a Neo Tudor style and has three storeys, including cellars and attics. The south front features two string courses and three windows; the upper floor has three 3-light stone mullioned and transomed windows flanking a central 2-light window, while canted bays with parapets flank the central 2-light window that replaces a former doorway. The stables to the north, extending to the east of the house, have a later inserted floor and three 20th-century windows on the south front. The out-building to the north is flanked by later additions that adjoin the house, featuring raised verges and a central gable; it has two storeys and an attic, with two 17th-century wooden framed windows and leaded lights visible on the west side. The principal interest of these buildings lies in the surviving 17th-century or early 18th-century fabric.
