Description

Brockhampton Court Hotel is a country house that has been converted into a hotel. The core of the building dates back to the 18th century and was originally a rectory. It underwent significant rebuilding in 1879 by architects Middleton and Sars, and again in 1893 by Faulkner Armitage from Manchester. The structure features coursed and dressed sandstone rubble, along with parts of sandstone ashlar and additional ashlar dressings, topped with a slate roof. It is designed in a Neo-Tudor style.

The building has an irregular plan, primarily rectangular, with the main section from 1879 facing west. It was extended to the north and northwest in 1893. The entrance is located towards the center of the west front, with axial and gable-end stacks. The hotel has two storeys, cellars, and attics, featuring a plinth, two roll-moulded string courses, and embattled parapets on the porch and tower. The raised verges and gables are adorned with finials, and the building has rusticated quoins. The windows include mullioned and transomed designs with square-headed labels on the later section, and many casement windows retain their latticed leading.

On the west front, there is a prominent 4-light mullioned and transomed window beneath the gable, with a similar window to the left of the forward projecting tower, which also has 4-light mullioned windows. Decorative strapwork friezes and surface panelled decoration are present below the parapet, with the date of 1893 displayed in a lozenge along with further sculptural details above the second floor. A gable projects alongside the tower, featuring a 2-light window and a 4-light window on the floors below. There is a dormer with a 2-light casement window and a 4-light window on the second floor. The forward projecting single-storey porch has a 4-centred arched doorway with a decorative panelled frieze above, double doors with decorative hinges, and a glazed inner door. To the right of the porch is a section dated 1873, which has a gable with two single lights and a central stack that projects slightly from the second floor, along with three additional mullioned windows to the right.
