Description
Price's Almshouses and Chapel are almshouses dated 1665, which were restored in the 19th century. They are constructed from ashlar sandstone and brick, featuring a graduated slate roof with a central gable and a bellcote, along with two brick end stacks on the wings. The building has an E-shaped plan consisting of 12 cottages arranged over two storeys, with brick above the ashlar. The façade includes an 11-window range with 19th-century, three-light casements. The central gable displays a tablet, a clock, and a firemark. There are paired entrances featuring 19th-century plank doors set in moulded wood frames, and on the right-hand wing, there is a plank door in a moulded wood arch leading to the Chapel, sheltered by a pentice roof on an ashlar pillar. The right side of the building has a 17th-century, three-light mullion window with lattice-leaded lights, situated beneath a shouldered dripcourse, and a brick lean-to with a plank door to the right. Inside, at No. 96, there is a straight staircase and exposed timber-framing in the party wall. The first floor also features exposed timber-framing in the party wall, while the ground floor has ogee-stop chamfered ceiling beams.
