Description
This is a pair of hop kilns and an attached hop room, located about 30 yards southwest of Wormsley Grange, and likely dating from the early 19th century. They are constructed of sandstone rubble with brick and sandstone dressings. The kilns have a twin circular plan aligned east to west, with the hop room situated to the north. The structure has a cellar and two storeys.
The south elevation features a slightly recessed upper stage with a chamfered string at the top. Each kiln includes a pair of round-headed openings on the first floor, which have brick arches and face diagonally outwards, along with a central square-headed opening for the cellar. There are two square-headed doorways, one for each kiln, that face diagonally inwards. The hop room at the rear has an entry from the west. As of February 1987, the kilns and hop room were roofless, and photographs from 1965 show that they originally had conical roofs. In their current roofless state, the hop kilns resemble a castle.
