Description
Biggleswade House is a house in a row dating from the 17th century, with later alterations. It is constructed with a timber frame, roughcast render to the main elevation, and brick end stacks. The building is a simple rectangular shape, a single-depth range with an outshut to the rear.
The main elevation is two storeys and two bays, with a timber-framed range set on a stone plinth; the upper portion is rendered. The central entrance doorway is flanked by 20th-century timber casement windows, and the first floor has two similar, smaller windows. A single roof light is set into the steeply pitched slate roof. The brick end stacks have projecting courses topped with terra cotta chimney pots.
The interior has not been inspected.
Biggleswade House, situated on Church Street in Bromyard, occupies a prominent location on one of the town’s principal thoroughfares, adjoining the church and market square. The area was fully built up by the early 17th century. The house originally dates from the 17th century and has undergone alterations, including the replacement of windows and rendering of the timber frame.
Biggleswade House is designated at Grade II for its architectural interest as a 17th-century timber-framed building and for its group value with the numerous other listed buildings in Church Street.
