Description
Man of Ross House is a late 16th century or early 17th century building located on the south side of High Street, numbered 34 to 36. It has three storeys and a cellar, with a large projecting wing at the rear. The north front of Nos 34 and 35 features timber framing with closely set studding, while No 36 is cement rendered above the first floor. The second storey projects on a moulded bressummer supported by carved brackets. There is an enriched moulded beam and similar brackets under the eaves, which previously supported a series of gables. The building has nine sash windows and a panel on the front depicting the head of John Kyrle in relief, with the inscription "Died November 7 1722, aged 88" below it. Inside, the building retains original ceiling beams and panelling. The roof features double collar beam trusses, and there are two 17th century doors dated 1689, decorated with the arms of Kyrle in punctured decoration. Nos 28 to 40 form a group with this building.
