Description

The Langar School (Church of England School House) dates to 1842 and is constructed of brick in Flemish bond, with ashlar dressings. It was built in the Tudor style. The building has a steeply pitched slate roof with moulded brickwork eaves and ashlar gable copings, including large, moulded, gabled ashlar kneelers. It features two ornamental stacks with grouped octagonal flues. The building presents a symmetrical design; it has a gabled cross-wing at each end, and a single-storey central range with a projecting gabled open porch containing an arched doorway. A tablet bearing the inscription "AD 1842" sits above the doorway. Flanking the porch are five-light chamfered stone mullioned windows. The left cross-wing includes a similar three-light ground-floor window and a two-light first-floor window. The mullions have been removed from the windows on the right gable, and replaced with 20th-century casements. Side elevations feature single and two-light windows and have lower, centrally-placed gabled projecting wings containing arched entrances. The right wing has been extended at the rear. The interior of the building was not inspected.
