Headstones in Churchyard of Church of St Andrew, south of nave

A collection of mainly 18th-century headstones, predominantly of slate, arranged in the churchyard south of the nave of St Andrew's Church.

The headstones are listed as follows, arranged east to west:

  1. (5 metres south of south transept). Small rectangular headstone with round-faced winged angel and raised letters, commemorating Elizabeth Peacock and her two daughters Margaret and Elenor, died 1735.

  2. Rectangular headstone with moulded edge, to Robert Moore, died 1762.

  3. Shaped classical headstone, to Theophilus Whitehead, died 1806.

  4. Rectangular classical headstone, to William James, died 1800.

  5. Small rectangular headstone with moulded edge, to Henry James, son of John and Mary James, died 1734, aged 2 years.

  6. Rectangular headstone with round-faced winged angel, to Ann, wife of Henry James of Barnstone, died 1720.

  7. Rectangular headstone with round-faced winged angel and raised letters, to Henry James Senior of Barnstone, died 1730.

  8. Large rectangular headstone with delicate edge ornamentation, to Ann, wife of Henry James, died 1775.

  12. Shaped classical headstone, to the three sons of Richard and Martha Rawbotham, died 1803, 1788 and 1788.

  16. Tall shaped classical headstone, to Sarah, daughter of the late Thomas and Sarah Hall, died 1790.

  17. Rectangular headstone with fine flowing detail, to Mathew Hall, died 1785, aged 80 years. Signed Barnes.

  18. Rectangular headstone with moulded edge, to Robert, son of Gervas and Sarah Howe, died 1767.

  19. Shaped headstone with fine detail and relief in a roundel at the top, to Sarah, wife of Gervas Howe, died 1779.

  20. Rectangular headstone with fine detail of flowers, to Gervas Howe, died 1783.

  21. Rectangular headstone with moulded surround, classical in character, to Richard Deacock, died 1734.

  25. Tall shaped classical headstone, to Sarah Clater, died 1810.

  26. Shaped headstone with fine edge decoration of flowers, to Elizabeth, relict of Henry Clater, and also Thomas Parnham, died 1816.
