Description
The Sea Lion Pool, Penguin Pool, and urns in the gardens of Stanford Hall are notable features from the late 18th century and late 1930s, designed by Messrs. Allom for Sir Julian Cahn. The sea lion pool, which now serves as an auditorium, has a diameter of approximately 120 meters and is interrupted by two gateways, one of which includes a double iron gate and two small piers topped with ashlar orb finials. Inside, there is an irregular rock platform. On the south side, a small culvert connects the two pools, with a small balustraded footbridge crossing over it. The penguin pool, which has been transformed into a rose bed, has rubble walls and a diameter of about 60 meters. Surrounding this pool are single decorative urns from the 18th century, which were remodeled in the 1930s.
