Description

The Thatch is a cottage dating from the mid-17th century, situated on the west side of Main Street in Rempstone. The exterior is rendered, with a brick plinth and a thatched roof, featuring a rendered right gable and single ridge stacks. The cottage is single-storied with an attic, originally comprising four bays. It follows a lobby entry plan. The front features a doorway with a panelled door, a wooden lattice porch, and a tripartite glazing bar casement to the left. To the right are two similar casements, each flanked by 20th-century shutters. The attic has three eyebrow dormers; the central one with a single glazing bar casement and the outer one with a single glazing bar Yorkshire sash, with a wall plate extending underneath. Attached to the left is a single-story, two-bay wing, also rendered with a thatched roof and a brick plinth. This wing has a small fixed light and a tripartite glazing bar casement, both with matching shutters. Inside, the cottage has four stud partitions framed between the tie beams and rafters of the roof truss.
