Description

A row of four cottages dating from the mid-19th century, built for Edward Strutt. The cottages are constructed of red brick with ashlar dressings, topped with a slate roof. They feature two large brick stacks along the ridge, a single similar stack at the rear, and an external stack centrally at the front. The brick coped gables have kneelers, and the cottages sit on a plinth.

The cottages are arranged as a single storey with an attic, encompassing eight bays. The bays third from the right and left are gabled, with the outer bays projecting and also gabled. A central stack is flanked by single two-light glazing bar casements, while further to the left and right are single four-light casements. Each side has a porch with a pyramidal roof and brick side walls surmounted by fixed lights; the right porch is open with an inner plank door, and the left is closed with an outer plank door. Single four-light casements are located in the outer projecting bays. Additional porches are positioned further to the left and right, each with lights to the front and entrances to the sides. Above each porch are four similar tripartite casements. All casements have flush ashlar quoin surrounds and ashlar mullions.
