Description

Nos. 9, 11, 15, 17, and 19 on The Green are a row of five cottages built in the mid-19th century for Edward Strutt. They are constructed of red brick with ashlar dressings and have a slate roof. The cottages feature two large red brick stacks at the ridge and at the rear, along with two similar external stacks at the front. The gables are brick coped with kneelers, and the buildings are set on a plinth.

The cottages are single storey plus attic and consist of 11 bays. The fourth bays from both the right and left project and are gabled. The outer single bays are also gabled. There is a central segmental arched doorway with a plank door, flanked by single two-light glazing bar casements. Above this area, extending over three bays, is a lean-to porch. In the projecting bays, there are single four-light casements.

To the left and right, there are single porches with pyramidal roofs, brick side walls, fixed lights, and inner doorways. Further to the left and right are single similar two-light casements, along with single tripartite casements in the outer single bays. The porches on the right and left have lights to the front and entrances to the sides, although the right porch lacks glazing. Above, there are four similar tripartite casements. All casements are surrounded by flush ashlar quoin surrounds and have ashlar mullions.
