Description

Rufford Lodge and the adjoining outbuildings and barn date from around 1700 and the early 19th century. The house was designed and built for Sir Thomas Parkyns of Bunny Hall. It features a rendered exterior over red brick with ashlar dressings and a pantile roof. The building has a single ridge red brick stack and lead coped gables with kneelers. There is a first floor band and a band over the first floor openings. The structure is two storeys plus a garret and consists of three bays. The central doorway has a fielded panel reveal and a 20th-century glazing bar door. On either side of the doorway are single ashlar mullion two-light casements, with three similar casements above, some of which have glazing bars. At the rear, there are two similar wings; the left wing features a single 20th-century casement and a similar ashlar mullion casement above.

Attached to the left and fronting Main Street is a range of early 19th-century red brick and pantile outbuildings and barn, which have raised eaves bands. The outbuilding attached to the house is a single storey with a single ridge red brick stack and two 20th-century fixed lights, and it has been converted for domestic use. Further left is a two-storey barn with a doorway featuring a large plank door and overlight, and on the far left is a single-storey range. After a devastating fire in 1705, much of the village of Bradmore was rebuilt by Sir Thomas Parkyns of Bunny according to his own designs.
